"Faces of Africa: A Cultural Journey" is an enriching residency which is designed to enhance to curriculum for students who are studying Africa. It can be extended for 4 or 5 days, depending upon the needs of the school.
The students "travel" through and exhibit displaying information, art, and artifacts, that come from four of the main West African countries in which the hand drums known as "djembe" and "dunun" are played. While visiting, each class (about 4 per day) fills out "Treasure Hunt" sheets, for which they will receive a Social Studies grade. The visit culminates in a drum circle (a drum is provided for every student attending....about 32!) where the students experience the joy the drums bring.
The entire residency culminates in The Healing Force performing our mst popular Assembly Program, "The Rhythm of the Drum." With resounding drums, rattling gourds, singing, storytelling, and lots of audience participation, The Healing Force brings to a close a celebration of culture.
