Thoughts From The Road

Becca and I are driving home from spending a few days in Estes Park Colorado at the final GMA in the Rockies event. Last year was our first time attending and it seems a shame that they will host the event, by a different name, in Nashville next year. I’m partial to the mountains, what can I say! It was so amazing going up to GMA in the Rockies and reminiscing about our experience winning the Vocal Group competition last year. In the twelve months that followed, so many things happened that we couldn’t have imagined. God has been doing things in a different way than we pictured He would.

Now, with a new CD to share and a couple songs hitting radio, some have asked me what it’s like to have “success”. It’s caused me to dig into my heart and ask myself, “What is success to me?” I don’t think we drew up plans to have the kind of success that we’ve seen lately. In my mind, success is getting the message of God’s love and the Cross communicated in a concert and seeing lives transformed. When I see this being accomplished night after night when we play, I feel satisfied with just doing our music unnoticed. Well, unnoticed by the Christian music industry. Like it’s always been, success is seeing hearts touched by God’s presence, truly being a light in the darkness and seeing God use our songs to impact lives for Him. I hope to cling to this as my goal and strive to see God radically move in our generation.

“What is success in your eyes?” The answer you give reveals the things you treasure in your heart. Is reaching your life-long dreams the success you aim for? If so, then what are your dreams? God is always looking for people to share His dreams with, His thoughts and ambitions. He is looking for people that He can use to pour His love through. It’s amazing that we can partner with God to change the world through His outstanding love!

"All Over The World" Featured In Houston Church Choir

Hey friends and fans,

Have you heard the title track of our new album, "All Over The World"? We've heard of some kids in Houston, Texas who are already learning it in their church choir. "We can hear it down in Houston..." Yep, that's right, the song is going to be preformed live by the Lakewood Church (Joel Olsteen) Children's Choir at the Saturday and Sunday services on July 5 & 6th for the first time. I'm so bummed that I won't be in Houston to see this, but if you're in the area and go to Lakewood let us know how it goes! :) Next up is Hong Kong and London - the two other places mentioned in the song lyrically. I have a feeling London is next!
Speaking of children, we want to invite you to pray with us this Wednesday, June 25th with Compassion International for the great need of hungry children worldwide. Compassion has set this day as a global day of prayer and fasting for the worldwide food crisis that's growing in it's severity. The current global food crisis is being called a "silent tsunami" that could plunge an additional 100 million people on every continent into hunger. Food prices have risen as much as 100 percent in some countries since 2006. Many of the countries Compassion serves are among those that have been hit hard by rising food prices. We know that God is our provider and Compassion is praying for His wisdom on how they can be a practical response to this huge need.

The Sonflowerz Surpass 200 Stations with Radio Singles

“My Adoration” is R&R “Most Added” & #17 on CRW INSPO Chart

Summer Tour Schedule Includes One Nation Festival

"My Adoration,” The Sonflowerz hit radio single from their new album “All Over the World,” climbed another chart position this week from #18 to #17 on the CRW Inspirational Chart. "My Adoration" was among R&R’s most-added Soft AC/Inspirational singles last week and is currently spinning on over 107 stations. The Sonflowerz AC radio single, “Edge of My Seat,” hit #1 on the CRW IAA chart for 3 consecutive weeks and is spinning on 97 stations just two months after its release.

The Sonflowerz, British-American sisters Elissa and Becca Leander, are recognized for their captivating vocals and honest songwriting. "We are so excited about the impact My Adoration is having in bringing people to the heart of worship," says Becca. "The theme of this song is about emptying all that we are and being filled in His presence."

The Sonflowerz will also be part of One Nation Fest, an annual music festival event in Gypsum, CO on July 4th. www.onenationfest.com. The Sonflowerz: Music Video in the Making

This weekend has been amazing! We recorded our first music video. Seriously! It's something that came together so quickly, and after this weekend, I'm stoked. The shots we filmed surpassed my expectations of coolness. No corny videos for The Sonflowerz! I know it's all because of the brains behind the opperation. Jimmy Patterson flew in from Nashville to produce for us and is known for his awesome work. He has filmed for Barlowgirl and TobyMac, among many others.

So, all that to say, watch for a stellar video comin' your way around the time we release our new album, "All Over The World" on May 13th. The song featured is called, Legacy, a favorite of mine on the upcoming CD.... written about a friend of mine, named Ben, who gave his life in 2006 while serving on the mission field in Nepal. It was great to film a video for a song about someone who was very dear to me and many of my friends. We were able to find footage of Ben when he was alive, working in the mountains of Nepal and Tibet. You will see some of this footage in the video! But, most of the filming was set in a church built in 1904 with Becca and I playing our guitars.

DOVE AWARD-WINNING PRODUCER DON KOCH TO PRODUCE NEXT ALBUM FOR THE SONFLOWERZ

Dove Award-winning producer-songwriter Don Koch will produce the next album for The Sonflowerz, the popular Christian duo that was named the Best Over-All Vocal Group at last summer’s GMA Music in the Rockies competition.

The Sonflowerz expect to begin recording their new project in Nashville and Denver in late October. The CD will feature about a dozen new songs penned by Elissa with other writers such as Koch and Brian White. The first single from the album will be released in February 2008. “Co-writing with Don Koch for this project has been fantastic, and we’re very excited about working with him in the studio.” “The songs are beautiful. The combination of Don’s talents and experience, and our musical growth over the last few years, take our music to a new level” says Elissa.our music to a new level” says Elissa.

The Sonflowerz are experiencing their most successful year. In August, the act won first place in the Vocal Duo competition and later were judged Best Over-All Vocal Group at the 33^rd annual GMA Music in the Rockies. A week later, their latest radio single, Move Me, from their second independent release, climbed to number four on the European Christian Music Chart, above other songs by major label acts such as Stephen Curtis Chapman, Kutless, and Audio Adrenaline. In 1998 Elissa began writing songs in Colorado Springs, after being reluctant to perform in front of audiences at first, she was encouraged by her youth pastor to form a band with her sister Becca.

Since the early ‘90s, Don Koch has produced records for every major Christian record label with total sales in excess of 8 million. He has won Dove Awards for Inspirational Record of the Year two years in a row and has worked with Christian acts such as Bob Carlisle, Larnelle Harris, Fred Hammond, Phillips Craig and Dean, 4-Him, Cindy Morgan, Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir. His songs have been recorded by artists such as Brian Littrell (The Backstreet Boys), Donnie Osmond, Michael Crawford, Avalon, Phillips Craig and Dean, Jump 5, Craig Morgan, Charles Billingsley, and Allen Asbury. He has won Dove awards for Song of the Year (once) and Inspirational Song of the Year (three times). He also has had 38 number one songs in the CCM market.

THE SONFLOWERZ BLOOM IN THE ROCKIES

Houston, TX - Colorado Springs, CO based sister act THE SONFLOWERZ shined brightly at the 33^rd annual GMA Music In The Rockies competitions held July 29 - August 4, 2007. Sisters Becca and Elissa Leander, not surprisingly, went home with top honors having taken first place in the “Vocal Duo” competition and then went on to be the “judges pick” for the best over-all “Vocal Group”. Heads were definitely turned as they took the stage for their final performance of the competitions with the song "Like No One Else", which was written by Elissa earlier this year before they left for their 4th UK Tour. “The message of the song is that God's love is like no one else's love, and while we spent a week visiting a British boarding school, the students totally embraced the song. THE place to be this summer is in Estes Park, Colorado for the 33rd Annual GMA Music in the Rockies! Aspiring artists will be able to perform for industry judges live throughout the week!

Representatives from the following companies will be on site judging both the song and artist competitions: ASCAP, BMI, Brentwood-Benson Music Publishing, Centricity Records, Daywind Music Group, EMI CMG Label Group, Integrity Music, Provident Label Group, SESAC, Spring Hill Music Group, William Morris Agency, Word Label Group and Word Music Publishing.

Over $50,000 in prizes will be awarded, including a performance slot at Disney's "Night of Joy," a trip with Compassion International, placement on Indelible Creative Group’s nationally distributed Velocity project, and new this year - placement on CCM Magazine’s New Music Collection CD.
